Building the wall(Song Lu# Jeg)

In his book SOCIOLOGY (third edition, 2000), Doctor David M.Newman said that: “we, as individuals, play an important role in coordinating, reproducing, and giving meaning to society in our daily interactions. But our ability to define social reality is limited.” The first time I encountered this sentence I was totally shocked--------how true it is. Sociologists are really very sophisticated thinkers. When you are born into the pre-existing world, everything has been right there for you, which means you will be influenced by the surrounding environment during your growth and development. Then, when you are phenomenal enough to shape the world, you are defining the reality of the world and dictate the running of the world. But you still have to stick to the disciplines and norms of the world. You cannot create whatever you want and put whatever version of how human will be coordinated to the world. Doctor Marx once wrote, [people] make their history, but they do not make it just as they please; they do not make it under circumstances chosen by themselves, but under circumstances directly encountered, given and transmitted by the past.”(Marx, 1963, p.15). This sociological theory can be easily grasped, but can’t be easily discovered. You may even not pay a little attention to such a subject before, but it truly has changed our perception of the world.
