Tiramisu: It is a dessert from Italy, consisting of layers of sponge cakes soaked in coffee and brandy or liqueur with powdered chocolate and cheese. In Italian, “tira” means “pick”, “mi” means “me”, “su” means “up”. So Tiramisu means “pick me up”.About Tiramisu, there is a warm story. During World WarⅡ, an Italian soldier was about to set out for the battlefield. However, there was no food at home. His wife had no time to bake him a delicate cake, while in order to prepare him food, she mixed all she had at hand, including biscuits, bread, eggs, cocoa powder to make a dessert. With deep love for him, she handed it to him wearing sweats and tears, and hoped he can return home soon.
Schwarwaelder Kirschtorte: Schwarwealder is the mountain area in southwest of Germany, stretching from Baden Baden to Freiburg. It is our so-called “Black Forest”. In German, Kirschtorte means cherry cream cake. So we can see that, actually the original Schwarwaelder Kirschtorte doesn’t consist of chocolate, nor is it black. Nevertheless, today when bakers make it, they add much chocolate in it. In fact, the real leading role in the cake is these cherries. It is said that, long ago when the Schwarwaelder area welcomed its cherry harvest, in addition to make jams with the extra cherries, farm women also generously put many cherries between the layers of cakes, or used them to decorate cakes. Even when processing the cream, they mix much cherry juice as well. Later, when the cake became popular outside of the Schwarwaelder area, people just named it after its producing area, so the cake was called Schwarwaelder Kirschtorte.
Mousse: Mousse is something like puddings, but it is much softer. The special thing about it is that it needn’t be baked in an oven. The main ingredient is whipped cream and egg white. So it is usually kept in refrigerators. It originate in dining capital---Paris, France. Its appearance brings a new trend in the world of cakes. When making it, bakers focus more on the living sentiment and artistic inspiration. So it gradually became the representative of modern high-level cakes.
Cheese cake: Cheese is the solidified fermented milk. It contains protein, calcium, zinc, vitamin A and B2, and is easy for human to digest. Besides cheese, eggs, fruit, and cream are also its ingredient. It has soft upper layer, and the low layer is usually made of biscuits. It is often decorated with strawberries or blueberries, or simply honey. Cheese cake first came from Greek, it is said that it is made purposely for the Athens Olympics.
So, in fact, the cakes we eat today is not only a dessert, but also a work of art containing bakers’ painstaking efforts.
