Leave space in the Heart for Yourself
Though we are busy all day, we always forget to allow ourselves adequate time for silent thinking. Glancing at the long list of irritating things you have to do during the coming day after waking up, I will lose my expectations of the new day. I think most of my fellow students share the same feeling just as mine. So what I want to say is that don’t forget to nourish your soul, which is the most important for you.
On weekdays, we concentrate on our studies with nearly no extra time to think of other things. How about our weekends? The situation of our weekends is no better than that of weekdays I think. During the weekdays, even from Monday, we start making the things-to-do list for the following weekend. So it is not a surprise that our weekends are usually filled with so many things which make us rather bored. You are asked to go shopping with A during the morning. After eating a quick lunch outside, you hurry to take the MRT to a friend’s far away to get back your badminton bats. Then you have to do the homework after the long journey without a minute of rest…At last, when you lie on the bed at late night and think back on the things done today, you are really confused if the things are exactly what I like to do? Absolutely no! They are the things you think you should do, not you like to do. You are driven to tiredness and confusion rather than a sense of pride and achievement though you are very busy.
So how can we manage to enjoy our lives and maximize our happiness? The secrecy surrounding it is to leave space in your heart for yourself and nourish your soul. Don’t let yourself surrounded by a crowd of peers; just take several books or your laptop with you. Enter a room where there is little noise and few people. Read your favorite books silently and enjoy the songs you used to listen to. You can take a walk along the beach or sit silently seeing the sunset…Keep your heart peaceful and let your thinking flow fluently, which point you to important ideas. You can really do a lot to nourish your soul.
Your soul is the only thing that will follow you forever and the real source of all your life. So don’t forget to nourish it.
