I never refuse to delicious food. Since I came to Singapore, I have tried many different kinds of food, like Indonesian food, vegetarian, muslin food, Japanese express and Singaporean food. For me they are all palatable, I like them even I can’t tell you which one I love best. But every time I call my friends in my hometown Chongqing, the Chongqing Hotpot will come into my mind, at the moment, I begin to dribble. Because I can promise you it is the most delicious food in my whole life.
The main character of the Chongqing Hotpot is spicy. The soup of the Hotpot is taken seriously and it is said the ingredients of the soup is a secret, every restaurant keeps own secret. The cook will put many different spices into a pot of water like chili, Chinese pepper, garlic, ginger, sesame, and add tallow, a pot of soup is created. The pot is sent to the middle of a table, there is a stove below it to keep the soup boil, clients will order their favorite food, then use chopsticks to nip them, after keeping them in the soup for a little while, they can enjoy what they want.
The Chongqing Hotpot derived from folk. In Qing Dynasty, because Yangzi River gets through my hometown, Chongqing became a paramount port city in the southwest of China. Many people came to these ports to make a living. But they were so poor, they couldn’t afford warm houses or sufficient food in cold winter, the only thing they could do was collecting some not very fresh vegetables or meat to cook them in a kind of hot soup, then ate them to defend the cold weather.
However today the Chongqing Hotpot has become a visiting card of my hometown, even someone says if you don’t have the Chongqing Hotpot, you can never experience what real Chongqing is. And this special food cultivates a vibrant culture for its people, like the Chongqing Hotpot is hot, the characters of people in Chongqing are decisive, candid, welcome, being loyal to their friends.
I welcome you to my hometown which is a very beautiful and modern mountain city, and I advise you have a taste on our Chongqing Hotpot, wishing you love it.

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to know how hotpot come into being. In fact I start to wonder why we Heilongjiangese don't like spicy food that much. Our place is much colder!! we eat hotpot too in my hometown, but we have choice whether to eat the spicy one or non-spicy.My mom always chooses the former, while I think eat too much spicy food will make me uncomfortable in stomach.Anyway it all depends on personal opinion. Peaple in Hunan also like to eat hot food and they have a kind of food just similar to hotpot, but isn't called that in fact. Maybe you can go to Human sometime and taste whether the flavor is the same... I like hotpot very much----of couse the non-spicy one

ReplyDeleteyou introduce the hotpot clearly and in proper arrangement. you can use new words well and the article makes me homesick and moving.
ReplyDeleteWe also eat hot-pot food in my hometown. Since I can't bear peppery food, I always eat plain soup ones.
ReplyDeleteThinking of the hot-pot, I remembered a local food in my city called "MianPi" as well, which is made of rice and is quite palatable with special sauces.
This is the first time that I heard the origin
of the hot-pot, which is with dense sense of history, as with other Chinese traditional food.
