Lately, I was reading the novel “Sherlock Holmes” which made me think more about what is observation, whether it is important and how to gain a great ability of observation.
What is observation? In my opinion, observation is not only just seeing something carefully but also using our own mind to deduce or associate with something from what you see. For example, we see a pair of dirty shoes. When we see them carefully we may just find some mud, but when we observe them we can deduce that the owner of the shoes may have been to some muddy places or he is a very lazy person. From this we see that is observation.
Then, is observation important? The answer is absolutely yes. With observation, we can discover many new things and some of them many even strike the world. For example, with the observation of a falling apple, Newton found gravity. With the observation of a little rat, Mickey was born. With the observation of environment, Sherlock Holmes solved many inextricable cases. So we see how great the power of observation is and how important it is.
Finally, how to gain a great ability of observation? From my view, what we should do is to try to think more, associate more and keep asking ourselves some questions. For example, when Newton saw the falling apple, he would ask himself why it fell to the ground instead of flying into the sky. When Disney saw the rap he associated it with cartoon character. When Sherlock Holmes saw some derails he would ask himself what these details indicated. All these are good ways of achieving a great ability of observation. If we can form these habits, I believe we can have the ability of observation.
Next time, when seeing something, instead of passing it with a simple glimpse we should use our mind to think more.
