Dear dairy,
Today is February 24, 2009. It rained heavily in the afternoon like yesterday and the day before yesterday. It’s no longer monsoon anymore; however, it rains in torrents as if it wants to pour down all the rain of the whole year’s storage. Anyway, I like it. Isn’t there a song whose beginning is “Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain”? I like it too.
Sitting an exam is always boring and making me nervous, and the reason is usually that I cannot do it well, especially of late. I try to breathe hard to overcome the nerves every time before a test or an oral report. It occurs to me of the topic PHOBIA I gave weeks ago, and this is definitely one of the occasions. Are all these common? When thinking of the answer YES, I gain a great comfort. For sure, it’s only a consolatory thought.
Kampong Glam is a Malay village.
And that’s all what I can say about it.
I do mean it’s a good place to comprehend some Malay past in Singapore history, yet it exhibits so little when compared with the long long Chinese history. Every museum in China is larger than the one I visited today, which made me very uncomfortable while wandering in it. Furthermore, I could find a large number of the items being sold today in some stores in China, at least I’d seen lots of which. No offence of course. I know it’s a sassy habit to compare everything with the life in China, if I could help it. I am adjusting.
However, I really like the feeling walking in the rain, with my new friend, passing those Malay shopkeepers standing at their doors to solicit trades, whose invariable smiling faces adding the perfect cinematic touch. What I also like is Lin’s voice, a little girlish, which made me speak just like her without noticing. She is the type of girl whom you want to listen to, out of her sincerity, no showing-off or something else, which reminds me of my best friend.
By the way, I watched Amelie, the movie I have a crush on, again tonight. Luckily I am still loving it and find myself want to be an Amelie, leading a pure, delicate and helpful life.
P.S. “Crystal clear” is a new collocation I learnt today, which means very clearly stated or understood. (E.g. I’d like to make it crystal clear that I do not agree with these proposals.)

Hello ~\(≧▽≦)/~, I am glad to make good friend with you. Though yesterday's journey did not interested me, I enjoyed our walking in the rain, talking about our former universities, our friends, and of course, the delicious food.
ReplyDeleteThe song "the rhythm of the rain" is also among my favourite songs. The thunder in the beginning can soon bring me to a walk in the rain. That afternoon I also enjoyed my walk in rain with my new friend, Xue Yuan. The feeling of walking in drizzle is pure and very fine, which can release you from the stress and unhappiness. Wish you a long-term good friendship with Cindy! And thank you for you teaching of "Crystal clear"!
ReplyDeleteHi Josie, I know yo0u may feel a little disappointed with the LJ. But you rightly said, we cannot compare two things, two countries or two cultures. There is no basis. Singapore is very very small. In the bus when I pointed out Singapore River. some students were so surprised. In China, when you are at one side of the river, you cannot see the other side. Another student said it is not a river, only a drain. We learn to know more about, to appreciate and to accept this is the way Singapore is.
