Last Sunday we went to the Concert Hall to listen to a harmonica Concert performed by some amateur players from the Hainan Harmonica Community. Before the concert, we went to a buffet in the Suntec City. The food was fine, I had roasted duck, crab sticks, stewed fish, and several different kinds of porridge. Infact, what I enjoyed most was the porridge made of rich milk and has sweets inside.
After we had a really big meal, we went around the Suntec City to have have a look at the shops, the cafeterias in it, and I had a cup of black coffee in one cafeteria with a friend in case of falling asleep during the concert in the afternoon.
At about a quarter past two we went into the famous concert hall, whose nickname is “Big Durian”, for that it has the shape and colour of a durian when seen from the outside. We got some brochures of introduction of the concert hall at the entrance, then went in to seat ourselves. While waiting for the concert to begin, I looked around to marvel at the fancy design of the magnificient building. I would like to take some photos, but the stuff told the audience that taking photos was forbidden, so I didn’t take photos. I wished I could bear everything in mind about the great hall.
When I was still looking around, the lights went off except the ones over the stage. Then the hostess walked out and introduced the Hainan Harmonica Community and the melodies that were about to play. She said good English and good Chinese, and I wondered when could I speak both languages so fluently.
The performance was quite good, the conductor was experienced and the players worked as a team well. In fact, I was a bit surprised to learn that they were mostly non-professional players. At the end of the concert they played Road to Heaven, a well-known Chinese song that glorifies the significant meaning of the road connecting the Tibet Plateau and the outside world which cost lots of time and manpower to build.
It was nice on the whole, and I hope for another exciting day for this Sunday.
