In Chinese, we often describe people who are unable to swim as"dry ducks".And I'm just one of the ducks.I've been a "duck" for many years. I failed to acquire the skill because I had a fear of swimming before, which interfered with my desire for doing it.
However, one Saturday, I stirred up my spirits and determined to take a chance with my roommate. We took a bus to get to the swimming pool that is not far from our hostel. Upon arrival, I, faced with a pool of limpid shining water, took a deep breath and made my way to the changing room.
After getting ready, I cautiously put my toes into the water, feeling cool and comfortable. Then 30 seconds or also passed, while I was still not in the water. Suddenly someone pushed me from the back and I, out of balance, slid down with my right hand nonetheless grasping the ladder. I jumped out of the water and wondered who had done such a rough deed. As might have been expected, it was my naught mate who played a trick on me in the purpose of letting me overcome the fear of water. Initially, I just huddled up at the corner of the swimming pool, doing nothing but watched others freely moving in the water back and forth and waved my arms now and then. My biggest movement was just taking a few slow short steps around the corner. To my surprise, I stayed there for no less than half an hour in spite of his , which also amused my mate. He gave a bitter smile and shrugged, showing his joy of finding someone standing in the pool for so long time without attempt to swim. Eventually I conquered my fear temporarily and put my head into the water with full courage. Then I kept doing this for the rest of the time there.
To a extent, I’ve made a great progress in the long way of finally swimming freely. That is all I have to say about my first experience of swimming.

ReplyDeleteI'm happy that you finally knew how to swim, while,I'm not skilled in swimming. When I was young,my father sent me to a swimming class, during the 3 months' lesson,I just learnt one kind of swim. But I live in north part of China, there's no sea nearby.I have little chance to swim.Maybe I don't know how to swim now,it's really a pity.Since you have made it,I hope you can keep your swimming skill and keep on swimming,it's definitely cool!
