Steven Chu

Today, I want to talk something about Steven Chu-----the candidate of the head of the Resource Department of America.
There are several important reasons for my willingness to talk about him. First, he is a Chinese—American. Second, he is a successful person. Third, he is a great physicist.
Zhu’s parents were both born in China----a small country region called Tai Chang in Jiang Shu province. His family was a great family. The elders in the family were very wise. They all paid much attention to their children’s education. Both of Zhu’s parents graduated from Thing hua University, one of the most excellent universities in China.
Zhu was born in1948 in St.Louis of America. When he was young, his performance at school was not very good. As for his two brothers, they performed much better than him, his elder brother once even got the first in the high school. But at that time, zhu had shown great interest in physics.
After graduating from high school, zhu was admitted into the University of Rochester, where he majored in physics and the application of physics. Later he worked in Stanford University. And his achievements had surpassed his two brothers Once a time, his parents agued with him that he should have chosen some courses in construction rather than physics, because there were too many intelligent people struggling in this area, and he may work hard all through his life and reap nothing at last. But he insisted that he could make it, so he just did it.
In15, October, 1997, he was informed that he got the Nobel Prize of physics for his contribution to capturing atoms in a very cold place created by LASER, on which area he had been working for almost 15 years.
In December, 2008, he was proposed by President Obama as a candidate of the head of the Resource Department of America. If the proposal gets through the congress of America smoothly, he will be the second person who is able to undertake an important position in America. And I think he will make greater contributions to the world.
I really admire him very much! He has got the courage to pursue his dreams instead of being frightened by the difficulties ahead.
Good luck to him!

  1. It is really a pity that many Chinese scientists started to succeed in their areas as soon as they settled in a developed country like America. But I believe, the time for our country will come very soon, without boasting, Nobel Prize will come, too.

  2. I think to be a great person who get a Nobel Prize is very difficult,it requires hardworking and you should fight against loneliness and many failures. After reading the passage,I admire him very much for his great achievement. But it is still a pity that no Chinese scientist has ever got the Nobel Prize,I just hope the day will soon come.
