(YAP) Paper Works

Two of my roommates are making paper roses by themselves to send to their beloved ones or those they care about in China. I got one and put this special green paper rose at a most conspicuous place on my desk. Sometimes I look at it thinking how much love has been put into it, which finally reminds me of my paper works that once were given to others.
I made my first birthday card to a friend of mine when I was still an eighth grader. His birthday that year was right after we became desk mates, while we had already been very close friends then. So to make a birthday card for him was more like a ceremony for celebrating our closer relationship. I prepared more than two weeks making dehydrated flowers. With elaborately chosen ribbons and other decorations I completed something I called perfect. It was not surprising that he turned out to be moved and his compliment stimulated me to "manufacture" more and more cards (neither of which were the same, of course). So subsequently I made everyone of my good friends birthday card as an attachment to their gifts; however those lovely paper works were their favorite, for they were unique, they were out of my hands and they were full of love.
No more than two years later I gave up this habit to curb the expected monotony of repeating. Much to my disappointment, I never find a better way to express how special my friends mean to me afterwards. And I am wondering if they still keep those paper birthday cards as well. That’s why I am now putting forward the paper rose in front of me. Meanwhile, I hope those who will receive the paper works could cherish the pure beautiful friendship from my roommates. In regard of me, to walk down memory lane is also a kind of happiness anyway.

learning time: "white man" can sometimes mean the person we can rely on because he or she is honest.

  1. Hi Josie this is what is generally called origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. But it really is a CHINESE art. Paper folding is indeed very interesting. I have done quite a few myself for my grandson - cranes, hats, cups.

They are very special gifts too, more personal and meaningful made with love and care, than merely buying gifts. Also paper folding is pleasant relaxation. Enjoy it.

  2. I believe anyone who receives your handmade gifts will feel extremely happy, for they are unique, and stand for the pure love between each other. I have been given many presents on my birthday, but the one I cherish most is a small gallipot made by my best friend in middle school. I am sure that the birthday cards you have made and given to you friends are kept well by your friends. They are not only cards, but with love and care, they are the best expressions to say I care about you.
